HOW A SUNNY OCTOPUS TRANSFORMED A GIRL’S ROOM

At the end of last month, we got to decorate a room for the sweetest young girl.
The star of the show? A giant, yellow plush octopus, impossible to ignore and the perfect spark for a playful refresh.
Since it’s a rental, we didn’t have the luxury of changing much. The wall color, the big furniture, even the layout were all set in stone. But that doesn’t mean a space can’t feel personal. Instead of fighting the limitations, we leaned into warmth and personality: layered neutrals, soft textures, and natural fibers to keep things grounded, with just enough contrast to make it feel alive.
And because a room needs a sense of fun (especially when there’s a giant octopus involved), we added a few curious little objects and accents that don’t take themselves too seriously. The result is a space that feels calm but not boring, playful but not chaotic, just right for the girl who calls it home.
This project is a reminder that even in a rental, with all its limitations, you can create a home that feels like yours. Sometimes, it just takes a fresh perspective, a few well-chosen choices, and maybe a cheerful yellow octopus to pull it all together.
Got a space that feels stuck? Or one that just needs a little more heart? Or a quirky touch? That’s where I come in. I can help you see your space differently, and make it feel like home.
With love for design,
Ana
